BBQ time doesn’t have to mean letting the healthy eating slide. Fatty meats and lots of bread, pasta etc can all add up the calories. Especially when enjoying the sunshine with an alcoholic beverage aswell. All these calories extra we don’t normally take into consideration. Are you trying hard to lose weight or eat healthily but find BBQ hard?
A typical BBQ meal might look this this
Chicken drumstick 🍗
Beef Burger in a bread roll 🍔
Sausage in a bread roll 🌭
Coleslaw or pasta salad.
Lots of fatty meat and carbs here which is fine if it’s a one off an you have been to the gym too that day, how about the alcohol added on though. How many beers or glasses of wine? 🍷🍺
Soon you have had a whole day, or day and a half of calories in one sitting. Poor waistline.
How about making your own healthier BBQ food? Making better choices means you can enjoy the BBQ more and relax about how much your eating.
We made kebabs and our own burgers yesterday. I made lean turkey burgers with chilli and garlic, joe made his own Beef burger. Both were with extra lean mince and both were very tasty. My mince was only 2%fat, can’t usually eat burgers as don’t eat Beef but making these was fun. We added our own spices into them aswell to make them more tasty.
Our kebabs were done with making my own Cajun spice and peppers. 🌶
Really tasty and with chicken breast meaning I’m getting lean meat in both.
This and a jacket potato and lots of salad meant I was halving the amount of calories and fat the meal above is. If not even more. And I enjoyed it a lot more too.🥗
If you have kids making your own burgers is a great idea and really gets them involved in flavours and how to make healthy food.
Give them a go and send me your pictures.
